TxDot Notes from Dripping Springs Elite Education meeting

Today I got to organize a meeting and hear from Bradley Wheelis with TxDot to speak to my organization, Dripping Springs Elite.  Here’s a little of what all we learned today!

  • Hays county is one of the more aggressive counties to get road work done.
  • The Oakhill construction project is 7 miles long, and is the most expensive project to date, totaling $674M.  It is currently on track and will be completed in 2026.  It includes adding flyovers, so there will be no signal at the Y.  They are also excavating to build roads underground so they don’t mess with the view with a bunch of flyovers.  There will be 3 main lanes in each direction.  70 retaining walls are being built along 290.
  • From Oakhill to RR 12:  There will be public meetings soon to discuss what this will look like, most likely early next year.  The plan is to have 2 divided lanes in each direction, meaning there will no longer be the center turn lane on Hwy 290. There will be some overpasses and there will be some designated left turn lanes.  Go to Txdot.gov and search their calendar to find when these meetings will be coming up.
  • From RR 12 to 281 : They are starting to find and understand the needs now and they will complete their study by the end of this year.
  • Hwy 281 (North and South):  This is set for 2027 construction to begin in both directions.
  • 1826 to the Hays county line:  They are making this a 4 lane divided highway and adding bike paths.  They are currently in the environmental study phase and will hold public meetings on this in December.
  • 1826 to 150:  They are pretty far out from doing anything here but are currently working on intersection improvements now.  They are adding left turn lanes at Towering Cedar, Woodland Dr., and Appaloosa Run plus a few others.
  • In 23 years, there has not been one single day where someone hasn’t died on a TX highway.   Find out more info on their campaign:
